Do you think the sharpest sword in the world is katana?you are wrong, the sharpest sword in the world is Damascus sword.

People will think if a lot of the sharpest sword in the world is the samurai of Japan, you're wrong turns eiits sharpest sword is the sword of Damascus (Damascus Sword) ..
The following is a little explanation:
Damascus swords are very strong but still flexible so that the tip of his sword can be bent to the handle of a sword. It is also very sharp sword that can cut european swords with ease, even said to be able to cut a piece of silk that was dropped to the ground. Typical characteristics are the Sword of Damascus Pattern / Pattern Watermark surface, similar to the Indonesian Keris / Japanese Sword (But Watermark on Damascus steel was not because of technical metal folds).
Research conducted by a group of scientists from the University of Dresden, reveals an extraordinary secret-the presence of carbon nanotubes. Apparently without realizing it, the maker of this sword uses nano technology when forging a sword. Unfortunately, the technique of making this sword disappeared in the 18th century.
in below is the picture of damascus sword anddamascus knife:

Nanotechnology includes the development of technology in the nanometer scale, usually 0.1 to 100 nm (nanometer equals one thousandth of a micrometer or one millionth of a millimeter). The term is sometimes applied to very small technology. Also very broad in scope, can be extended to various fields such as medicine, robotics, physics, etc.. While carbon nanotubes are cylindrical carbon bond with a diameter of 4 nanometers (1 nano = 1/1.000.000.000).

Material used is called wootz steel, rich in carbon nanotubes. Materials are said to be imported from India, and Damascus sword making halted due to expiration of this material.

Legendary Damascus steel is a steel material having superplastic properties (the ability to experience permanent deformation without cracking up to 1000%).

With the unique nature of this then Damascus steel is widely used as material for making swords and guns. According to the myth that guns are made using Damascus Steel will never dull or broken. Besides having superplastic properties of Damascus steel also has a pattern that is characteristic of water (watermark) on their surface.

Damascus steel was first made in India and then expand to Syria. Damascus own name given by Western nations involved Crusades and find a weapon made from Damascus steel in the city of Damascus, Syria.

Damascus sword once used by the Muslim leader Salahuddin al-Ayyubi the Third Crusade against the Christian army led Richard the Lion Be .. Both leaders
mutual respect. The two leaders who later became a legend, who want to see please watch the movie Kingdom of Heaven (2005)

  1. Carbon reinforced steel makes ideal weaponry, and Damascus steel is the apex of that. I would be interested in seeing a sword made of titanium vs one made of carbon reinforced "Damascus" steel, it would be an interesting comparison. I think of this because I have a titanium rod in my thigh femur bone after a gunshot, and titanium is known to be very strong while being very light. Titanium costs too much to make it very practical for weaponry, though though it would be a cool novelty for sure

  2. There is lot of talk about sharpness, but no one seem to be able to make a video of their amazingly sharp swords, or even make any kind of standard how to measure sharpness. I mean there is lot of videos about how to cut paper as a sharpness test, but cuttin paper is easy, and proves nothing. I would like to see how blade "cut a piece of silk that was dropped"..
